Move Out
36 × 36
Mixed media on canvas
There comes a moment when the soul can no longer stand still.
When God whispers through the wind, through the dust, through the muscles of a mighty horse—
Move out.
Not backward. Not inward.
Forward.
This horse carries the weight of every storm I’ve survived.
Its stride is strength.
Its breath is courage.
Its posture is the reminder that healing is not a place but a prayer.
May this piece remind you, as it reminded me,
that strength doesn’t always roar.
Sometimes it simply takes one brave step forward—
and then another.
Move out.
Head forth.
Move on.
Into the life God designed just for you.
This painting began as a painful recreation of a piece I made before my heart was broken. I carried it with me on a healing journey—beginning at a ranch in Santa Barbara, where I rode horses and grounded the canvas with the soil from that sacred land.
From the ranch, I took it down to Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara, pressing sand from the shoreline into the piece so the ocean could become part of its story.
I then brought it north to Highlands Ranch Resort in the quiet Childs Meadows near Lassen, where I continued layering pastels and paint in the peace of the mountains.
Finally, I finished it in my studio in Chico, California.
Move Out became a reminder to myself—and to anyone who sees it—
that even after heartbreak, we can keep moving forward, outward, and into the strength we’re meant to claim.
